In the summer of 2015, I traveled to Sierra Leone to teach creative skills to women with disabilities in the northern city Makeni. Some of the women had lost family members to Ebola.  Some were dealing with preventable illnesses or incredibly high rates of child-birth mortality. Some were still dealing with injuries sustained during the civil war.

Some of the staff had been forced to be a child soldier.

Despite this, the name of the organization perfectly described them: Women of Hope.
